Mines bigger than yours! The new Dreadlord on Black Dragon kit is absolutely gorgeous. Didn't think GamesWorkshop could top the High Elf Dragon but oh how I was wrong. The model practically screams Terror!

Imperial Armour: A First Impression

Ordered my first Imperial Armour book a couple of months back. Arrived on time, opened the box looked over the front cover and everything looked fine, turned it over and noticed a small crease "no big deal" I say to myself.

I then turn it onto it's side and see this:

My first thought was "must have been damaged during delivery" so I checked the box but couldn't find any damage. So it makes me wonder; Was the book packed in that quality? I certainly hope it wasn't.

Needless to say I wasn't happy but managed to get it replaced within a few days. Does make you wonder though.

Converting a Pre-Heresy World Eaters captain and thought a double headed chainaxe would look impressive but the haft of the weapon was far too short. So I hacked it apart and used some rod to give it a bit of length. But now I'm wondering: Have I made it too long?

Can't help but feel it's just a tad bit too long.

Hey guys,

No new pics just yet but a bit of news. The Star Phantoms project has ground to a halt after I decided the Badab Campaign wasn't for me. What originally started as a campaign designed for a bit of fun has descended into "I Must Win At All Costs" hell so I've dropped out. Thats left me thinking about what I want to work on next.

For years now I've had this obsession with Pre-Heresy themed armies and now I'm going to invest in a proper PH force. Now all I need to do is decide which Legion I'm want to do.

In the end I've decided to give myself to Rogal Dorn and his Imperial Fists. Pics should be up soon of my first Tactical Squad before it goes onto the production line for painting.

Badab Campaign: I Love You Lexicanum!

Me again,

Lexicanum have finally been updated with some information on the Star Phantoms. And it's given me a whole host of options.

Before I was under the impression that the Star Phantoms only deployed their 9th Company (Devastator Company) to Badab, according to this new information they actually sent the entire Chapter.

Also it seems that rather than the normal 2 Devastator Squads per Battle Company the Star Phantoms maintain 3 Devastator Squads.

Badab Campaign: Big Problem

Just got back from a fun day at GW Southend, spent all day painting and decided to skip playing a game.

Been a pretty productive day which has seen me work on the Tactical Marines, Imperial Fist Scouts and Captain Androcles.

First up is the Tactical Marines and lets just say I'm really not impressed with these. The test model looked good so I got to work on the next 10 and it went down hill from there. Have a look for yourself.

Next are my Imperial Fists Scouts that are finally finished. Very happy with these boys and had a few comments made about them. May look into expanding them into a full 1,000pt Imp Fists list in this scheme.

And finally I've done the conversion for Captain Androcles. And again I'm very happy with the result.

Need to get back to the drawing board with these Star Phantoms.

Badab Campaign: Chariots of the Phantoms

Small update tonight, built 3 of the Rhinoes I've had in boxes for a while.

Getting my large drybrush tomorrow and will be spending most of the day down GW Southend hopefully being productive and getting bits painted. Oh and I'm also starting my Captain Androcles conversion. Should be a good day.

Badab Campaign: Test Model and Ancient Alondrius

Been busy this weekend assembling my 1,000pt Star Phantoms force, 30 Tactical Marines and the Dreadnought are awaiting undercoated and a lick of paint. One thing I have realised (AGAIN) is that I really hate cleaning mould lines off of models, and when you've got 30 Tactical Marines to clean up it makes you want to scream. You'd think with the advances in injection moulding technology that they would of found a way of stopping mould lines forming.

So this is the first stage of the test model for my scheme. Looking hopeful but the real result won't be apparent til tuesday as I need to purchase a large drybrush to continue. So hopefully come wednesday I should know whether this is the scheme I'm going with.

I've assembled and undercoated Ancient Alondrius, my Dreadnought. Really wanted to arm him with a lascannon but I just didn't have the points for it without reducing the effectiveness of the list elsewhere.

And before I forget there has been a slight change to my 1,000pt list due to lack of available multi-melta's. Each Tactical Squad is now carrying a rocket launcher.

Badab Campaign: Oh You've Got To Be Kidding Me!

So I went into GW Thurrock (Lakeside) this evening to pick up a Venerable Dreadnought and to find out if there is an official colour scheme for the Star Phantoms.

And boy was I in for a shock:

(NOTE: Largest image I could find, but not very good).

Yep the Star Phantoms are a pure white armoured army.

Never tried to paint white power armour and I wasn't too sure how to approach it.

Thinking about it I've got 1 thing going for me, it isn't a bright, virbrant white. The Star Phantoms are more of a dirty, dull white so that should make it slightly easier. (NOTE: By the end of the weekend I'm really gonna regret that sentence).

So I'm going to go with:

-Skull White undercoat

-Dheneb Stone basecoat

-Devlan Mud wash (heavily watered down)

-Skull White overbrush

Gonna smash out a test model tonight and see how it goes. Otherwise I've got a big problem.

Campaign Project: The Badab War

Another year, another Space Marine army being planned. GW Southend is running a Badab campaign over the summer (from what a friend has informed me) and I thought I'd get in on the action. From what I've heard (again from a friend) it seems everyone and their dog is siding with Huron and are painting up Lamenters (no doubt to use the Blood Angels codex). So I've decided to take command of the chapter that eventually whooped Huron's traitorous backside.

The Star Phantoms.

Now as I don't own the Badab Imperial Armour books I have very little information to work with. The only armour scheme I could find is from the BoLS Badab campaign book which i'm not sure is 100% accurate (but I do like it). So on friday I'm heading down to find out more information on the campaign and to see what the Star Phantoms scheme actually is.

What I do know is that the Star Phantoms deployed into the final battle of the campaign (Siege of the Palace of Thorns) in a massed Drop Pod assault so thats the style of army I'm going to enter with. Also that the Star Phantoms were led by Captain Androcles who horrifically wounded Huron with his combi-melta. At this point I'm setting out for a 1,000pt army, with the potential for an expansion to 1,500pts.

A Quick Chat With Dan Abnett

A few saturdays ago I got to meet Dan Abnett at a book signing in Thurrock, and got my copy of The Lost signed, and had the chance to ask Mr Abnett a few quick questions which he was kind enough to answer fully.

Me: Will we ever get the Gaunt/Rawne fight that you've been building up to since First and Only?
Dan: Yes. In Traitor General Gaunt and Rawne had to put aside their differences to complete their mission, but in Blood Pact Rawne starts to revert to his old self, mostly because he's bored. So yes the fight is coming up in the next few books.

Me: Would you consider killing off the Ghosts in the final book? It's the 41st millenium, there are no happy endings.
Dan: Definitely. The Ghosts will not have a happy ending. I just haven't decided how extreme I want to be with the final book.

Salvations Reach will be the 2nd part of The Victory will a potential for a final 2 books to wrap everything up, this doesn't include the 'Lil Gaunt' prequels.

Christmas Morning Tradition

Bit of a tradition I've had the past few years. In short I spend a few hours early on Christmas Morning painting up a single model for one of my many armies. This year I decided to finally paint my Dark Elf Lord with Great Weapon. Took about 5 hours in total, very happy with the finished product.

Basing still not settled on yet. Fantasy basing is a problem for me, cant decide whether to go regular grassy field or snowy Naggaroth bases. Will decide soon.

Very little is known about Trask's background but rumours have quickly spread about a previous posting and an inquisitorial investigation. Whether these rumours are true or not noone dares to find out as the Cadet is protected by the Regimental Commissar himself.

Pre-Heresy Ultramarine Test

Hey,

I've had a Battle Company of Space Marines sitting in a box for a few months now just waiting for inspiration to strike. Since then a few ideas have entered my head (Raven Guard and Iron Warriors) but those amounted to nothing. Then a few days back it struck me. Ultramarines. I've always enjoyed painting blue (High Elves and Dark Eldar had large amounts of blue) but felt I could do a better job now. So this morning I sat down, put a Mock the Week dvd on (always paint better with a comedy playing on my tv) and painted this Tactical Marine up.

The pic doesn't really do the model justice and I'm extremely happy with the result. It took around 30mins to do this, including drying time for the wash. A couple of squads shouldn't take much longer than an hour to paint up.

Now I just need my Ultramarine shoulder pads to arrive and I'm good to go.

Hey,

This is where I currently am with the Hydra tank. Tracks will be painted before being attached to the hull as it results in a neater finish.

I've got a pretty big problem with the hydra autocannons as the barrels on both parts aren't straight and bend inwards towards the end. I currently don't know how to fix this problem and would appreciate any advice on how to straighten the barrels out.

Marauder Destroyer Project: Part 5. Wings

Hey again,

Small update on the Marauder Project. Both wings are now cleaned and built (minus Hellstrike Missiles which are gonna be magnetised).

Next will be the cockpit and then the weapon mounts. After that all I need to do is greenstuff the gaps. Some of the gaps, especially between the wings and fuselage are pretty big so will require quite a while to fix properly.

Still need to order the magnets, acrylic rod and base. I do know what rod I want and where to get it.

Marauder Destroyer Project: Part 3. Taking Shape

Hey again,

back working nights again now so I haven't had as much time to work on this beasty as I would like. Pinned and glued Nose and Ttail sections to the Fuselage. Nose was pinned with 4 pins and the Tail with 3. May have to go back and make a fourth pin in the Tail as the joint isn't very strong (broke it immediately after I put the camera down).

Next job will be the Cockpit area.

Marauder Destroyer Project: Part 2. Fuselage pinned

Slight progress has been made. Fuselage has been washed and cleaned. Then using the skills acquired from my apprenticeship I marked out the points where the pins would secure the top and bottom halves of the fuselage together. Took around 30mins and was extremely fiddly but finally got there. Then it was a simple task of drilling the 12 holes. Next paper clips were 'clipped' up to the required length and placed in the bottom half of the fuselage. Top half was fitted into place. Once I was happy with the fit the pins were superglued into the bottom half of the fuselage before the top half was glued into position.

Marauder Destroyer Project: Part 1. Is it all there?

Yep it's official. I'm building a Marauder Destroyer. Oh yea and the order also contained a Hydra Flak tank.

So today (now that I've got some spare time) will be taken up by:
-Ensuring every component is there.
-Clean the fuselage.
-Start slow construction of the fuselage.

Everything present and accounted for.

There are still a few bits I need. Namely: a base, flying rod and some magnets.

Another weekend gone, another few days of painting. Decided to start to focus on my Khainite units now that I've finished both units of Spearmen. So on the paint station were my Death Hag, Cauldron of Blood and my Witch Elf command group. Oh and I finished the flesh and hair of my Shades. Without furthur ado, the pics . . . .

This could be a pain to paint, large areas of Shining Gold are difficult to paint smoothly. Doesn't help there aren't many decent guides on the interweb.

These are alot more fun than I was expecting. Rather than having paint lots of armour these girls give me a reason to paint large areas of flesh (something I enjoy). Will definitely be adding a 2nd or even 3rd unit, but thats a topic for another time.

Flesh and hair are now finished with a final highlight of Elf Flesh (flesh) and a highlight of Codex Grey (hair).

Week Challenge - How It Went

It just didn't happen . . . . .

I bet thats what you were expecting to read wasn't it? Well pick your jaw off the floor because I've actually done something this week. The plan was paint for an hour a night and post the results on friday. Started off to a flyer and ended up painting for 2hrs monday and tuesday. College got in the way wednesday, thursday and friday. But last night (saturday) something weird happened: I managed to paint pretty much non-stop for 5hrs (thanks to Mock The Week and Bad Boys 2). So heres the pics.

EDIT: I haven't just been painting 3 spearmen but the full unit of 20. Easier to photo just 3 =)

Challenge - An Hour, A Day, A Week

I would like to confirm, I AM NOT DEAD! Things may have been exaggerated but I have actually been *CENSORED BY ORDER OF THE INQUISITON*.

A friend suggested a simple way to help restart my painting habbits as I've hardly done much for the last 3 months. So heres what I'm gonna do:

Paint for an hour each night.
Post updates at the end of Friday showing what I've been up to.

Seems simple enough.

Lords,

As you are aware the Emperors Tarrot and consultation with the holy grimoires of our order confirmed that the nefarious power of the chaos god Nurgle would be focussed on the Krytton Sub-Sector. In particular Krytton Secundus itself would be the focal point. Unable to gather a sufficient sized force I tasked 3 Imperial Guard regiments (Kurlian 34th Heavy Infantry, Virgus 11th Light Infantry and Essexian 23rd Mechanised) to reclaim the planet. My expectation was to use the Guard as a distraction until a hammerforce could be gathered to obliterate the foul heretics.

Events on the surface of Krytton Secundus have meant that reclaimation may not be feasible. Initial landings of Imperial forces was met with almost overwhelming force. Records show that 80% of the initial deployments were annihilated, second waves however were successful in reinforcing landing areas. Once those beachheads were opened the Guard entrenched in expectation of an even fiercer counterattack. When those counterattacks were launched the Guard buckled and barely held the line. After-action reports indicate that the target of these attacks were the Imperial Guard commanding officers. Colonel Elec Frest and Colonel Anar Fentris of the Kurlian and Virgus were wounded but are still combat-effective. Colonel Reikard Antkinson of the Essexians however regretably was killed, to furthur compound the failure of the Essexians a large force gave chase to the withdrawing Chaos Marines was ambushed and destroyed. Below are estimations of the remaining strength of the Imperial Guard regiments.

Kurlian 34th - 20% casulties, position viable.
Virgus 11th - 24% casulties, position strong.
Essexian 23rd - 35% casulties, position tenuous.

If this rate of attrition continues at expected levels then 'alternate measures' may be necessary.

Project: Corax, Primarch of the Raven Guard - Accessories

Afternoon y'all,

So it's about time I discussed my first real 'major' project. I want to convert a model for Corax to use with my Pre-Heresy Raven Guard force. Why do I want to do this? Because Primarchs are cool and I want an awesome centerpiece for the army. This project will also be a way to improve my greenstuffing and modelling skills (the GS in particular needs work).

So where to begin? You should NEVER just blindly throw yourself into any project unless you want it to end a disaster. Even if you just have a mental image of what you want to do its a start. Me however because my mind wanders so easily . . . "oooh look a pretty flower" NO! BAD PETTSY! FOCUS! I decided to make some scribbles and as you can see my drawing skills are as bad as my greenstuff skills.

Here we have a potential design for Corax's weapons and powerpack. I like the sword especially though the hilt could be difficult to produce. Everything is a real rough draft at this point but I can already see some things I want to change. Namely; the sword should be longer and the powerpack needs a serious redesign but its a start. Will be back in a short time with updated designs.

Mini-Campaign: Reclaimation of Krytton Secundus

Moved into previously unknown territory a few days back. Me and Rich (regular opponent) have always ensured that each of our games have had a strong narrative behind them, having pretty vivid imaginations this has never been difficult. However, we've always wanted to go furthur and expand those 1 or 2 games into something that tells a glorious tale (for the winner at least). So the release of the Battle Missions book was the inspiration I needed and this is what I've come up with:

It's not perfect by any stretch but then for a first timer you can't expect perfection can you? Still need to get the opening story parts done but then we should be ready to go.

'The Freak Wagon'

I've wanted a Psyker Battlesquad since the new Guard codex came out, the only problem was trying to fit them in background and modelwise.

Now though I've had a flash of inspiration (thanks to Dan Abnett's Only In Death). I'm thinking of using the Empire Flagellants kit as I want them to look like they are barely held in check from turning on their fellow Imperials. For the Overseer I'm tempted to use either a Commissar (I do-so love my Commissars ;]) or the necromunda Arbite with shock maul and supression shield.

Now for 'The Freak Wagon'. As the Essexian 23rd is a mechanized regiment it would look odd to have the PBS without a Chimera. Now heres the genius thing. I want to convert the back of the Chimera into a holding tank. I'm thinking either prison bar cage or enclosed tank.

A Grovelling Apology

Afternoon,

A small apology for you all today.

Updates on the hobbyfront have been really lax this month due to family issues (I'd rather not go into) and issues with my apprenticeship (that have hopefully been resolved now).

After a really disappointing month I'm ready to dive back into the mess that is my paint station and get things done.

Got a cool project lined up for this month which involves converting, enlarging and green stuffing (oh that last bit is gonna be fun >.<). Will discuss the project more next post :)

Iron Warriors. Just saying those words in my head conjures up good memories. You see the sons of Perturabo were my first 40k army, together we went through alot, we both survived the 13th Black Crusade. But at some point they fell aside, I turned my back on them and joined the true sons of Rogal Dorn. . . .

But over the years they've been niggling away at the back of my mind. And finally the day has dawned; Warsmith Krol'kon marches forth once more! Behind him march rank upon rank of Chaos Space Marines, backed up by a wall of armoured vehicles. The worlds of the False Emperor and foul xenos alike tremble at the coming storm. They will fall in a hail of bolt round and cannon fire.

Focus on the Reward

I've been thinking

A friend of mine suggested to me that I set myself a reward for completing my monthly goals. This way I'm focussed on hitting the marks regularly. Also it seems that Col.Corbania from Corbania Prime (http://corbaniaprime.blogspot.com/) has done this kind of thing to help him beat smoking (best of luck with that mate if you're reading this). Rather than getting something special every few months I'm setting just the one reward.

Terms of the Reward

1 - My monthly goals must be completed on time.

2 - My monthly budget MUST NOT be exceeded.

3 - I must post more pictures/fluff.

If I can keep this going til December 31st then I will allow myself to add a

to my Essexians. With the money I will save by the end of the year I can easily afford one of these babies and still have spent less ;)

Duties Done

The troops prayed they would never end up here, for many it was the last place they would ever see. Dull moans sounded from several doorways. The smell of anaethetics, blood, vomit and excrement mixed into a potent concoction that threatened to overwhelm the medicaes going about their duties.

Regimental commissar Marcus Von Petts limped down the main corridor of the simple brick building. His boots squelched in fresh patches of blood. He had to step into the doorway of a room as a gurney was rushed passed bearing a screaming trooper into the emergency room, years of experience told him that the occupant would be with the Emperor in no more than an hour. If he could of he would have put the agonised soldier out of his misery; but that would have put him up against Chief Medicae Gerai whose views were that every soldier deserved the chance of survival, no matter how non-existant the chance. An orderlie walking past gave him directions to the room he was searching for. Before entering the ward he removed his cap with his one good hand, the other tightly bound across his chest in a sling, the worst injury caused in the valkyrie crash landing. On entering the room one of the more alert troopers shouted out "Officer present"! Most of the semi-concious men tried to sit up and salute him. "As you were lads", Marcus had no wish to cause them to burst fresh stitchings or aggrivate injuries. He limped over to a bed in the middle of the room. "Corporal Hellock"? At the mention of his name the beds occupant sat up and saluted sloppily. "Sorry sir. Medicae Gerai's keeping me drugged to the hilt". Some of the words were slurred.
"I've read the report Corporal. You did a damned fine job. And from what I understand Epistolary Taeloth owes you his life". A thin smile broke on Von Petts' face. "And its not very often an Astartes says that about a guardsmen".
"Just doing my duty commissar".
"The colonel and I have been keeping our eyes on you Hellock. And now we feel you're ready to move up". He reached his good hand into his shirt pocket and pulled out a fabric square. "It's my pleasure to promote you to the rank of sergeant. You deserve it sergeant". Von Petts attached the sergeant strips to Hellocks shoulder. "We'll have a squad ready for you once you're out of here. Any issues and my door is always open".
"Thank you . . . sir", Hellocks speech was slurring badly now.
"Rest up son". But sergeant Hellock was already asleep. . . .

Hey,

Managed to get some pics before the camera died, typical havent used it for a while and when i finally get around to it the battery runs flat. Got a few pics of Malus but not Shadowblade or Shrike.

Overall I feel a bit 'meh' about this model. Under my desk lamp it looks awesome, under normal light it doesn't look as good, also the camera can't get a good focus on the runes of the Warpsword which I feel are probabily the best part of the model. What do you think?

Gaming - Game One
Got in my first game this month yesterday taking my Orks up against my arch-nemesis Plaguelord Atkinson and his traitorous Death Guard. Game started well with the Orks pinning the Chaos Marines in there deployment zone, suffering minimal casulties. Warboss and his Boyz wiped out an entire Plague Marine unit in a single turn (Nob and Warboss did all the work, 18 Boyz failed to kill anything with 68 attacks!) After that the Death Guard began retaking the pace butchering my Boyz everywhere with Typhus leading the spirited counterattack. Fortunately the game ended before he could destroy the Grots holding my objective. WAAAGH! Gorespittle is off to a winning start with a 1-0 win.

Got another game tomorrow, wish me luck and I'll get back to you as soon as possbile ;)

One Year On

Holy Bones of Rogal Dorn!

Today marks the second big milestone of this blog. Today the blog is officially one year old. To think that I started this for a laugh expecting to keep it going for a month or two, get bored and give up. But here I am, one year on and still going strong(ish). Late last month we hit 1,000 views which was unexpected.

Updates haven't been as frequent recently but I am trying to get pics taken, battle reports reported and fluff fluffed(?) okay that last one sounds wrong . . . .

Books, Plans and Reviews

Hey,

Been a weird week, haven't got anything to share at the time being so just going to ramble about a couple of things.

A Novel Idea

Why is it I always want to start a new army whenever I read a new Black Library novel? It happens with Storm of Iron (Imperial Fists), Gaunt's Ghosts: The Saint (Imperial Guard), Malus Darkblade Chronicles 1 (added Malus to my Dark Elves).

And now I want to start up a Word Bearers army because I'm currently reading Dark Creed. If I could actually finish one of the armies I'm currently working on then I would do a small 1,000pt army but because I've got so much to do I'm going to have to try and hold back on that idea for a while. The other reason I don't want to start is it will just be another army that never gets used ala Dark Eldar.

Black Library novels are a very good source of inspiration, something I'm severely lacking at the moment. No doubt once I start reading The Saint again (once I finish Dark Creed) I will get down and paint everything that remains for the Essexians.

Plans For The Rest Of The Month
Forget planning the week, its just not working is it? So I'll set aims for the end of the month. Somehow I've got to resist the call of my Xbox, pull my finger out and get some painting done. I'm spoilt for choice with things I want to do. So here are the aims:
-Finish Malus Darkblade (bought this month).
-Finish Shadowblade (bought this month).
-Finish Sentinels or Vanquisher.

Darkblade has already been started with Spite almost finished.
Shadowblade still needs basing and spraying, after that shouldn't take more than a couple of days at most.
Sentinels just need the cabs painting.
Vanquisher needs tracks, lascannon and details painting.

Should be doable but lets see eh? ;)

Recommendation
If you haven't read any of the Word Bearers trilogy then you seriously need to. The first book is titled Dark Apostle (followed by Dark Disciple and Dark Creed) and sees the Word Bearers assault the world of Tanakreg looking for a powerful artifact. The Imperium responds with a force of Ellysian Drop Troops and Adeptus Mechanicus soldiers to try and retake Tanakreg. The book is utterly engrossing, you could pick it up and before you know it an hour has passed, I had it finished in 3 days. This trilogy I would rate up with the best of Abnett and McNeil.

Dark Elven Spearmen

Druchii vs Vampires
Tomorrow I'll be fielding my Druchii for the first time. I've been invited to take them to GW London (Oxford Street) and face the Vampires of one of the staffers. Now, I've never played or watched a game involving Vampires but from what I understand their magic phase is nasty therefore I've gone against everything people have advised and will be taking no magic defence whatsoever. I'm hoping Malus Darkblade and his Cold One Knights can tear the heart out of the Vampires before they do too much damage.

A New Week, A New Goal

Well the goals I set last week were a little bit too generous. After all I only managed to get the Spearmen finished. The bolt thrower will be finished by tomorrow and Malus should be done pretty soon after that. I'm hoping to have those 2 bits finished by Wednesday when I'll be fielding the Dark Elves for the first time.

One word to describe my progress: BAD. I've failed to get the wednesday and thursday done, however I did make progress on both bits so they will be finished by sunday night. Todays objective won't be completed because its far too windy to spray my cold ones :( So i'll have to content myself with painting some Sisters or the Crossbowmen.

Wednesday - Finish Spearmen [X] Got the flesh painted, just left leather belts, sword scabards and the shields to be glued on.
Thursday - Finish Bolt Thrower [X] Just got the last of the crew to paint.
Friday - Spray Cold Ones [X] Not gonna happen.

Yea its not been a very productive couple of days. Going GW in about an hour to see if Malus has arrived and to get my Hydra pinned.

Now that I'm back at work my painting time has been severly cut. So in order to keep progressing to a decent degree I'm going to set myself some weekly goals, nothing too taxing but enough to keep me motivated.

Gaming Resolutions 2010

A new year is upon us so its about time I made some resolutions. As everyone knows real resolutions never last more than 2/3 months, so I'm gonna make Gaming Resolutions for this year. They are:

Play More - Seems quite simple really, get out more and play. Only got 5 games in last year so I really wanna get gaming more.

Update Blog More - More pics, more conversions, more battlereports.

Follow a Set Spending Limit - This year I'm limiting myself to spending £30 a month, anything not spent can be taken over into the next month.

Write More - Haven't written any decent pieces of fluff this year and as its something I enjoy I want to do it more.

And thats about it. Any bets the spending one goes out the window pretty quickly? :)

Got a 2,000pt game against my friends Death Guard (what a way to end the year) and I've decided to field the Guardsmen rather than the Imperial Fists (though I'm itching to use those as well).

Swag and Test

Hey,

Well another christmas has been and gone. Family have visited and returned to their homes (disappointing that we only get to meet up together once a year). And one of my armies has received some much needed reinforcing.

Swag (Warhammer)
This year it was my Battle Sisters that got the shiney new toys. I received:

1 Sisters Exorcist (Organ tank)
1 Sister Superior with bolt pistol
2 Sisters with meltaguns
1 Sister with flamer
3 Battle Sisters

The Exorcist allows me to field my 1,000pt list. The tank is gorgeous but looks to be a pain to assemble (thats not to mention the weight of the thing) I may have to invest in a pin drill before I begin construction.

I can also field an 8 girl unit of Dominions armed with 4 flamers. This should help me against the surge in Tyranids we can all expect to encounter over the next few months.

Updating the Fists

I've never really been over the moon with my Imperial Fists. There is no depth or highlighting on any of the models and I feel they deserve more. So a few nights back I decided to experiment on my Sternguard Sergeant.

So far I'm happy with this test. With the next Sternguard I want to try a Ogryn Flesh wash for the shading rather than Devlan Mud. We'll see how that comes out :)

"Dusting Off"

Hey,

Well it was a semi-productive day yesterday. I got half of the Dark Elves based, but still have to assemble the final half of 20 Spearmen. Would have liked to have based everything but I hate basing ;) I've Red Gored the armour and standard for my Essexian Command Squad, should be finished by the end of the year (fingers crossed).

Oh yea and I've finished the Valkyrie! *cue cheering* This beast has been in my posession since 9th May. You are correct it has taken over 8 months to paint. But finally my baby is done. Check it out:

Did I mention that I want to change the weapon loadout? With the rapidly approaching Tyranid swarms I feel that Rocket Pods may be a better option for the Valk. I may remove the Hellstrikes.

A Problem
I know what you're thinking "Damn Pettsy is that all you did in a day?" Why no it wasn't is my reply. I attempted to finish assembling the Hydra for my Dark Elves and I ended up giving up before I threw it at a wall. Now this is a first for me, never before has a model defeated me (must be the stubborness of Rogal Dorn within me). I'm struggling to understand the reasoning for releasing the Hydra as a metal model NOT a plastic one. This gorgeous beastie stands on 3 legs and weighs an absolute tonne, this unfortunately makes it tend to fall to the side. I've tried superglue, greenstuff and a mixture of the two but to no avail. Therefore in the new year I'm gonna have to take the wee beastie to GW London and get him seen to, which will mean me having to fork out for a drill :( Still got no clue why I bought that model, wouldn't have had this issue with 4 bolt throwers ;)

Snow Day

Hey,

due to the decent amount of snow we got last night I havent been able to get into college. This is a good thing as it means I can paint :D

So the plan for today:
-Complete Valkyrie. This has been sitting on my shelf in an almost finished state for about 3 months now. Will take 5mins to finish.
-Complete Command Squad. Just got armour and weapons to go.
-Base Dark Elves. Need to base Master, Sorceress, 40 Spearelves, 10 Crossbowelves, Bolt Thrower Crew.

My Apologies

Long time, no update!

Lets cut to the chase, this month has been hell! I've turnt 21, I've spent far too much (damn you christmas!) and I've been working my backside off. And these have meant little/no time for my painting.

So what have I been doing?
Trying to paint up a full 1,000pts of Sisters. To make it more managable I've split the army in half and am focusing on one half at a time.

Heres the first finished Sister. The others are in the last stages of painting, with only the tabards and the bases to go. Hoping to have the full army finished by January. Not gonna happen is it? ;)

And on the fantasy front I've started a Dark Elf army. I've done this so I own a decently painted 40k and Fantasy army.

Next up my converted Dreadmistress. I've used the body of the Supreme Sorceress and glued it to the legs of a Cold One Knight. This has the advantage of making her look more Lordy than a Sorceress and also eliminates some of the weight.

And finally the first part of my Spear Elves. I'm going to go with a black and deep red scheme. Hoping to have this unit finished by Friday. Doable :)

Been busy this week so not much time for painting though I did manage to get 2 games of Planetstrike in (Game 2 and 3 on the Roll of Honour). And I lost both. The second game was the worst. Attacking and I didn't destroy a single bastion, whats annoying is the fact I was using 2 Demolishers, Vanquisher and 3 lascannon Sentinels.

But whats new this week? Well I've grown bored of power armour so I've started an Ork army. Started painting Warboss Gorespittle this afternoon.

As you can see not much progress so far but hoping to get more down over the next couple of days. Got wednesday off work so hoping to get a bit done then.

Let me reiterate: NEVER GO INTO A GW ON RELEASE DAY!

Ended up going GW Southend instead of Thurrock, thank you very much Network Rail! And it was a pain in the backside. Store packed with little kids, too few staff etc. Had to go to the counter twice (forgot the Space Wolf Second Omnibus first time) and it took 5mins to get served the second time. So what did I get?

And of course I couldn't get either dvd in HMV, so I actually came back with less than expected.

Am I mad? More than likely. Heading down to Thurrock GW to pick up those Sentinels you chose and some bits for a friend. Now normally I try to keep as far away from GWs on new army release day, shop always swarming with the little brats wanting the new best thing. With these brats occupying the attentions of the staff it takes 3x as long to get served. Gets my blood pressure up a bit :)

Thousand Sons Predator (Part 1)

Hey,

Wanted to add something different to my Pre-Heresy Thousand Sons so I picked up a Predator a few weeks back and finally got around to assembling and spraying the model. One thing that dictated the weapon set-up is the fact that during the Heresy there were no Predator Anihilators, so meant I had to go with the autocannon turret.

Not much done so far, just the basecoat for the red. Next step is to ink the red areas and begin to drybrush those parts Blood Red.

It's 4.30pm and I've just woken up (my eyes are still covered in that gunky crud) so forgive me for yet another small update.

The poll result is in! Next time I head on down to my nearest GW (not exactly near but it's on the way to/from work) I'll be grabbing a pair or maybe even a trio of Scout Sentinels. I've narrowed the weapon choice down to 2 options.

Autocannons - Decent Strength, good number of shots. Only downside is I struggle to roll decently when trying to penetrate vehicles.
Lascannons - Brilliant Strength. These hitting a vehicle in its side armour are more than likely going to leave it a smoking wreck.

So thats that for the moment. Next time I post I should have some more pics for ya, hopefully of the finished Valkyrie (just got the wing jets to do) and maybe the Veterans as well (or maybe not that much!)

The child Kahotep was discovered alone in the desolation of Prospero, how he came to survive is a mystery. He was brought to the City of Light by Ahriman himself, some whisper that Magnus himself ordered the sorceror to find the boy.

Once in the city Ahriman brought the boy before the Cyclopean sorceror. What was said between them none can say, all thats known is Magnus ordered that Kahotep be trained to use his psychic abilities.

A week into his training the future of Prospero was forever changed. The Emperor himself was reunited with his lost son. Kahotep was one of the first to be granted the blessed Geneseed and start on the road to becoming a Space Marine.

Kahotep now fights alongside his newfound brothers in the Great Crusade. With two of the legions mightiest heroes to learn from his future seems bright. But even the brightest lights can dim with time . . . . .

Hey y'all,

It's been a while since I've posted an update, as usual work is devouring all my spare time so I'm not getting much chance to do anything.

After listening to the fedback I received over at TauOnline I picked up some Badab Black wash and Blazing Orange paint to put the finishing touches on my Commissar Lord. A quick wash of the black and a highlight of Blood Red and Blazing Orange to the cloak later and this is the result.

I don't think there is much more I can change without messing something up. So there we go for the moment, I'm currently in an Eldar mood at the moment and am busily assembling some more Dire Avengers and Warwalkers.

Hey, long time no see.

Been hideously busy with college, work, overtime, lack of sleep, boneidleness etc. So I haven't really got much done. Though what I have got done I'm really pleased with :)

After some comments on TauOnline about the lack of highlighting on my Dire Avenger I decided to try out this 'highlighting' technique. So I threw myself in at the deep end and paint up my Lord Commissar. The highlighting came out better than I hoped. Have a look.

Plasmagun Conversion and Sergeant Progress

The sharp eyed amonst you will notice the board banner has changed (again), I've decided to go back to my original idea and go with a Chimera mech army rather than a Valkyrie mech army. So today I picked up my second Chimera. This now brings my army to:

I thought I would go for something bright, vibrant and something that would stick out from the crowd, hence the green and pink colour scheme (something you just can't do with Marines).

Hey y'all,

Not a very big update today, works been hectic so I haven't had much painting time to spare. Went into my local(ish) GW to get the HQ required for my Guard and discovered that I would be going home emptied handed (sort of). After a quick chat with the staff I placed an order for my Lord Commissar and something special (more on that at a later date). Now as I left it so late in the week I have to wait til NEXT friday for it to arrive :(

Oh, and before I forget I've just finished applying sand to the bases of all my Guard models. Makes a really nice change to have this finished first rather than last (or in my usual case, never done). So now I can spray everything and get cracking on the painting, and with a bank holiday approaching I'll be pretty busy.

The Bad News
It's happened again. The manic rush of new Guard players has driven me away again. So I'm going to let the rush die before coming back to this army.

A Sneak Peak
Colonel Nalton gazed out the fireslit of the bunker, over the maze of trenchs, the sucking mud, the shell craters and the dead bodies of his regiment. The explosions of grenades and the manic flashing of lasfire was visible across the entire trench network. This was not possible was all he could think, they had sited this position with the utmost care and skill. The enemy, whoever they were, shouldn't have been able to gain footholds in their defences. Hell they should have been killed before they got within 30metres of the firestep! If they got out of this alive someone would take the full blame for this disaster, and it wouldn't be him.
A shadow passed across the fireslit so quickly that he almost missed it. With his augmetic hand he removed his laspistol from his hip holster and checked the load. Full. A loud clank from the armoured access door made him spin around pistol raised. The other troopers with him raised there lasguns. Trooper Gaela walked up to the door and placed his ear to the thick armour. "Sir. There is someone outside". Just as he finished a loud clank echoed through the door. Something had just impacted against it. Gaela kept listening, before turning to face his Colonel. "They've gone, I can't hear . . ." he never finished the sentence. The door and his head turned to liquid as what could only be a meltabeam carved through them both. Nalton and his men fired through the liquid remains. A shadowed figure dived sideways away from the gunfire. The Imperials took this opportunity to reload. Nalton was about to order them to chase the figure but the words died in his mouth as another figure, in green and pink armour, walked through the door and levelled a giant flamer at them. "Bastards . . . ." was all he could say before the interior of the bunker was consumed in fire.

The green and pink armoured figure is going to be a part of my new army, turn and guess which it could be :)

I Went, I Fought, I Did Better Than I Thought

Recon Patrol Tournament
Well the tournament has been and gone. I was up til 3am the previous night trying desperately to get my fourth Tactical Squad finished, but no it wasn't doable so a quick change to the list was needed. In the end my list was:

Game One
Opponent: Space Marines
Number of Objectives: 3. 2 were in his deployment, I placed my 1 in the center of the board in a ruined building.
Result: All 3 objectives held. Opponent 'tabled'

Overall a great start. My opponents army had a lot of heavy weapons which he decided to fire instead of moving. Also if he had Combat Squadded his 2 Tactical Squads he would have been able to go for the objectives better. Though to be honest his luck was appallingly bad and mine was very good.

Game Two
Opponent: Chaos Space Marines
Number of Objectives: 3. 2 in enemy deployment, I placed my 1 in a ruined building in my deployment.
Result: 2 held, 1 contested.
Amusing Moment: My lascannon marine falling off his balconyhidingplace and losing his lascannon in Turn 2. Hits on Turn 1. For the next 2 turns he missed with boths shots, staff member offered to glue it back on for me which I accepted, next turn (with his arm back on) he actually hits.

I had a really bad feeling about this one. My opponents army was led by Huron Blackheart and had Berserkers and Possessed in there. My plan was to destroy the possessed, berserkers and huron whilst pushing for the objective in the left hand corner and maybe push for the other (being held by a large unit of Chaos Space Marines). Again my luck held and I was able to destroy the Berserkers completely, reduced the Possessed to 2 models and my Captain cut off Hurons head with his relic blade! After a few turns I managed to gain control of his left objective and we contested the final objective, I would have 'tabled' him in my next turn if we had had time with my Captain posed for another charge.

Game Three
Opponent: Imperial Guard
Number of Objectives: 3. 2 in my opponents deployment (was getting annoyed with this by now) and 1 in a building in my deployment.
Result: 1 held, 2 held by opponent.

This game can be summed up by two things. My opponent wasting 20mins deploying and the fact that I only needed 1 more turn to win the game. My marines advanced through cover before launching attacks along the guard line, though by this time I had lost a number of models (more than in the previous 2 games combined) so the guard were able to overwhelm me in combat. In the final turn my Sergeant was trying to hold on to the middle objective by himself, I had to make 8 saves on him and failed only 1, so close yet so far. Of course now the game ended just as my captain and assault marines were in range of a charge on his 2nd objective and I lost the game.

If I had won this game I would probabily have beat the next opponent and won the tournament overall. Ah well I had a great time and considering I haven't played 40k for about 4 months the result was brilliant.

2nd - Imperial Guard (guy I lost to) - 7 Objectives
3rd - Space Marines - 6 Objectives
4 - Imperial Guard - 4 Objectives

Amazing that on the day the Guard Codex had just been released.

Unit of the Tournament: Assault Marines. I really didn't want to take this unit with me for some reason. They defied all expectation and killed everything they came into contact with.

I Return!

Well my time spent fighting with the Adeptus Astartes of the Imperial Fists chapter is coming to an end, next saturday will see them taking part in a mini-tournament at my local Games Workshop. Usually I take part in these events for a bit of fun, a good laugh and the prospect of fighting out a good story. Not this time! Nothing less than a total win will do me. Over the last week I've been tweaking the list in various ways, first a unit of Scout Bikers were pushed in instead of the 4th Tactical Squad, I felt however that having another 2 units capable of capturing objectives would perform better. The other potential change was replacing my Captain with a Librarian allowing me to potentially capture an objective in the final turns using the Gate of Infinity power. In the end though I decided to keep with the original list as a Captain is more fitting for the Imperial Fists than a Librarian and the fact that I will be fielding 46 bodies in a 1000pt game should give my opponents a problem. I also bought myself a Commander kit as I find the AoBR Captain to be an absolutely horrible model and wanted to model a Captain with the equipment I want and in a better pose. The final list I've settled on is:

Captain 140pts
with powersword, plasma pistol and digital weapons.
Tactical Squad 1 175pts
with a meltagun and a multimelta.

With my time with the Fists coming to an end I'm finally going to be returning to the Essexian 23rd. This time however there will be a difference. I've decided (probabily like a thousand other people) that I want to collect an aircav army. Yes, the Valkyrie Rush has sunk it's fangs into me. Managed to get my hands on one of the lovely new kits yesterday and I happily spent a couple of hours (whilst trying to finish Dead Sky, Black Sun) putting that beast together. In order to assist painting it I've assembled it in specific assemblies: Cockpit, Troop Compartment, Wings and the Base. I'm hoping (provided the wind dies down a bit) to start spraying it later on day. Pics will follow (how many times have I promissed this and not delivered now)?

Construction Completed . . . Well Almost

Good afternoon myself (since I'm probabily the only one reading this),

Well yesterday I decided to pull my finger out and try and get my damned Chimera finished. This was the first model I bought and started painting for the army and so far it's STILL not finished. After an hours session I have only the metal detail of the Right Side panel to do. The reason this has taken so long is the fact that I've tried to be as neat as possible with this army. Now that I can see how the tank will look when it's finished I need to speed up the painting a bit.

Very small update, Captain finished late last night. Not overly happy, the spray didn't come out too well so that hasn't helped. May try and grab another. Picture later this week hopefully.
